Boys to Men (2001)
by Jason Clark review

Similar in spirit to the Boys Life series, Boys to Men, as a whole, offers up several interesting ideas and takes them virtually nowhere. The films are less perfunctory than one might expect (though they do have the maximum quota of male nudity and graphic gay sex for those watching for puerile reasons), but all have an uninspired sense of importance -- there really isn't anything new said. The final short, The Confession, is leaden, but at least explores terrain that feels new to gay cinema, if not to the mainstream. The others are well-intentioned but obvious, with The Mountain King being the most visceral, if simple-minded, Crush being the sweetest, if overly familiar, and . . .lost the most succinct and to the point, even if that point is made in its first minutes. Three of the short films have been cited in various gay and lesbian film festivals around the country, with Crush capturing several audience awards.
