synopsis
William Holden, playing a somewhat seamy compulsive gambler, forms a friendship with a rich boy who is fascinated by life at the racetrack. This unusual friendship is threatened by all sorts of conflicts, some of which even endanger their lives, and the movie waxes a bit melodramatic at times, but the fine performances by Holden and Stewart keep the viewers' attention.
