Bodywork (1998)
by Buzz McClain review

Once Virgil Guppy (Hans Matheson) discovers a murdered prostitute in the trunk of his new, broken down car, his life starts on an ever-tightening downward spiral. An accident lands him in the hands of car thief Tiffany (Charlotte Coleman), who teaches him her trade while he tries to clear his name. While in hiding, Virgil's girlfriend (Beth Winslet) takes up with his oily best friend (Peter Ferdinando), and Virgil becomes implicated in more murders as a pensive, clever detective (Clive Russell) closes in. It's quite a story, and this stylish, tightly woven British crime thriller/black comedy compares very favorably to Snatch, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and I Went Down. A cast of believable eccentrics executes the hairpin plot turns on a dime, with no wheel-spinning whatsoever, and Kate Winslet's nearly identical sister is worth a look alone. A great rock soundtrack is used effectively and the cinematography is accomplished despite budget restraints. The ridiculously sexy video box, featuring half-clothed photos of no one who is in the movie, will only add to the pleasant surprise inside.
