Synopsis by Jack Rodgers

This offbeat documentary, directed by Ryan Harvie and John Paul Horstmann, focuses on an outrageous wrestling circuit and an unusual feud that develops among their ranks. The Seattle Semi-Pro Wrestlers pride themselves on their flamboyant characters -- including Eddie Van Glam and Ronald McFondle, the latter a perverted version of the McDonalds mascot -- but their most controversial character is a guy in a banana costume. That's because the performer, Paul Richards, finds his assigned role ridiculous, and believes the other wrestlers gave it to him as an act of humiliation. When Paul decides he's had enough, he strikes back at the wrestling circuit by demanding law enforcement shut it down for safety violations. In time, this dispute becomes national news and sets off a debate over whether pro wrestling should be considered a sport or theatre. Bodyslam: Revenge of the Banana! premiered at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival.
