This was one of Warner Baxter's early starring vehicles. He's World War I veteran Jack Dunbar who, like a lot of veterans then and now, is finding it hard to land a job. When he fixes the broken down auto of the newly rich Nicholas Small (Ralph Lewis), he finally runs into some luck. The blustery Small explains that the way to get ahead is to blow your own horn, and then he takes Dunbar to an estate, where he is introduced as a millionaire. Dunbar turns out to be pretty good at hyping himself. Small wants his daughter Ann (Derelys Perdue) to marry Augustus Jolyon (Eugene Acker), the inventor son of an extremely wealthy man (Ernest C. Warde). Dunbar works his magic on Augustus' invention -- a wireless means of transmitting power (a concept quite a bit ahead of its time) -- and rounds up a crowd of interested investors. He also helps Augustus perfect the apparatus. Small decides that he doesn't want to see the device succeed, and in his attempt to foil it, he sets a cabin on fire -- with Ann inside. Dunbar manages to rescue the girl and prove the worth of Augustus' invention. Ann has fallen in love with Dunbar, and Small ultimately consents to the match.
