Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein
Directed by former serial star Charles Hutchison, this minor silent crime melodrama featured Barbara Bedford as a young girl going undercover in order to retrieve certain incriminating letters used to blackmail her friend (Joy McKnight). The blackmailer (Crauford Kent), meanwhile, is killed by a gangster and Barbara's boyfriend (Ralph Graves) is arrested for the murder. The plucky heroine, of course, manages to get the goods on the real murderer (Ethan Laidlaw), who is arrested after a thrilling car chase. Photographed by future Academy Award-winner Leon Shamroy, Bitter Sweets was produced by low-budget firm Peerless.
