Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein

Set in the barren marshes of Jutland sometime in the late-18th century, Danish poet and novelist Steen Steensen Blicher's Bejleren is the saga of a proud country squire (Karl Stegger) who refuses to grant a young suitor (Troels Møller) permission to marry his daughter (Inge Margrethe Svendsen) until he has proven himself worthy by capturing a gang of highwaymen. There is not much more than that to this handsomely mounted film, and director Knud Leif Thomsen (whose earlier Blicher film, Hosekræmmeren was more successful) admitted to have attempted making "a simple Danish western." According to the almost unanimous negative reviews of the day, he failed.
