synopsis
According to Scotch-Irish legend, a banshee is a restless female spirit, doomed to wail and moan throughout the night, in search of souls as unhappy as herself. The title character of the 1991 short subject Banshee invades a tiny Scots village, hoping for companions in misery. Unfortunately for her, the villagers are far too happy to give her the slightest consideration. Originally presented on the cable-TV series We All Have Tales, Banshee is based on a short story by Karen Ackerman. It is conveyed in "iconographic" style, using soft-color still pictures and narration.
