Synopsis by Nathan Southern
Famed Brazilian guitarist Baden Powell -- the self-made legend who rewrote the rules of the bossa nova and brought the samba back to its roots, is the central focus of the aptly-titled concert film Baden Powell Live, directed by Jean-Claude Guiter. The program actually consists of two segments: an hour of Powell by himself and an hour of the Baden Powell Trio. Flying solo, Powell interprets "Samba do aviao," "Naquele Tempo,""Lagoa de Abaete," " "Samba triste," and several other tunes. With his accompanists, numbers include renditions of " O Samba da minha Terra,"" Nega de Cabelo duro,""Corcovado," and many more. Guiter supplements these programs with additional material, including interviews with Powell, Pierre Barough and Claude Nagaro.
