Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

Rifat (Sukran Gungor) is a retired judge who prefers the silence of solitude to the company of strangers. Remaining in his secluded world, even as police murder his Kurdish neighbors, Rifat subsequently receives an uninvited guest in the form of young Hejar (Dilan Ercetin), a young girl who proved the sole survivor of the massacre. A filthy and temperamental lass who at first seeks little more than shelter, Hejar and Rifat soon learn to overcome the barriers that separate them and form a unique friendship. Due to its vivid depiction of the crippling poverty experienced by the country's 12 million Kurds, this film was banned in Turkey upon its initial release.
