Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
This French documentary explores the background and activity surrounding a mayoral election in the town of Arras in 1971. The candidates give candid interviews before and after the race and are also seen on the campaign trail. The contest pits a Gaullist challenger against the aged Socialist mayor Guy Mollet, who at one time was the Prime Minister of France. His ability to continue working full-time, and his political alliances with local communists are the major points of controversy during the campaign.
