Synopsis by Hal Erickson
British novelist A.E.W. Mason is best known for his jingoistic adventure story The Four Feathers. At the Villa Rose is a lesser but no less florid Mason work. Manora Thew stars as a phony medium, working the suckers in Monaco. A gang of ruthless thieves kidnaps Thew as part of their scheme to fleece a wealthy British widow. When their victim is murdered, Thew is framed for the crime. It's up to reliable old Poirot-like Inspector Hanaud (Teddy Arundell) to separate fact from fancy. As with most of the A.E.W. Mason works adapted for the screen in the silent era, At the Villa Rose was remade as a talkie in 1930, with Austin Trevor as Hanaud.
