Synopsis by Hal Erickson

This lighthearted Soviet concoction stars L. Beibutov as a wealthy Azerbaijani merchant named Arshin. Per the film's title, Arshin would like to take a wife. Custom dictates that his family select a bride for him. Not wishing to enter into a union with someone he's never met, Arshin disguises himself as a humble clothpeddler, the better to find a woman of his own choosing, then (hopefully) coerce his family into selecting her. Despite its utter lack of political content, Arshin Takes a Wife was not a likely candidate for American distribution during the Red-scare 1950s.
