From the archives of WGBH television comes a historic performance showcasing the US premiere of the original, 1912 version of Richard Strauss and Hugo von Hofmannsthal's Ariadne Auf Naxos. Originally telecast live from Symphony Hall, Boston on January 7, 1969, this once-in-a-lifetime performance features conductor Erich Leinsdorf leading the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and boasts an impressive cast including Beverly Sills as Zerbinetta (in a performance that brought Sills great acclaim) and Claire Watson as Ariadne. Also appearing are Benita Valente as Najade, Eunice Alberts as Druade, and Carole Bogard as Echo.
