Originally airing in 1986, this series presents animated depictions of masterpieces by Japanese authors of the 20th century such as Soseki Natsume and Yukio Mishima. Animated Classics of Japanese Literature samples a wide variety of books, with some episodes spinning tales of young teachers struggling to educate their students amid hardships and obstacles, while others portray the tragedy of blooming love stifled within social classes.
