Animalympics: Summer Olympics (1979)
by Perry Seibert review

This winning animated film plays beautifully for both children and parents. While kids will love the animation and the funny voices provided by Gilda Radner, Billy Crystal, and Simpsons regular Harry Shearer, adults will appreciate the spot-on satire of television coverage of the Olympic games. Everything from the "Up Close and Personal" segments about the athletes (made famous by ABC) to the motor-mouthed announcers (Crystal's impression of Howard Cosell is as perfect as Shearer's ode to Keith Jackson) gets a pointed skewering while never being so mean as to wipe away the goofy charm of the entire project. This film was produced in order to tie-in with the 1980 Moscow summer Olympics, which the United States boycotted. Solid original songs were written by 10cc's Graham Gouldman. Hard to find on video but worth the effort to track down, Animalympics is entertaining viewing for the whole family.
