Synopsis by Brian J. Dillard

Now fully accepted into the Circle of the Black Thorn (see "Power Play"), Angel (David Boreanaz) sets about fulfilling his real objective: taking down the Circle -- and Wolfram & Hart's Senior Partners with it. First, however, the fang gang spend what may be its final day exactly how they want. For Gunn (J. August Richards), that means helping Anne (Julia Lee -- see "The Thin Dead Line") at her homeless shelter. For Angel, it means recruiting Lindsey (Christian Kane) to his cause and reconnecting with Connor (Vincent Kartheiser). For Spike (James Marsters), it means getting drunk and hitting a poetry slam (to read the same verse he spouted in Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Fool for Love). For Wesley (Alexis Denisof), it means chasing Fred's ghost in the company of Illyria (Amy Acker). And for Lorne (Andy Hallett), of course, it means singing. Once the day ends, however, it's time for Angel's plan, which involves sending a different team to take out each member of the Circle. By the time all is said and done, several beloved and not-so-beloved characters are dead or dying -- and Angel goes out in an abrupt blaze of glory. Originally broadcast May 19, 2004, on the WB network, "Not Fade Away" marked season five, episode 22 -- the final episode -- of the supernatural soap opera. Although Angel's cancellation stunned and saddened its producers, cast, crew, and fans, the possibility of reviving the show as a series of TV movies was floated at the same time the cancellation was announced.
