Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
An idealistic poet courts a beautiful woman against the backdrop of the French Revolution as Umberto Giordano's heart-wrenching opera comes to life in a Royal Opera, Covent Garden production starring Placido Domingo, Anna Tomowa-Sintow, and Giorgio Zancanaro and featuring libretto by Luigi Illica. Conductor Julius Rudel leads the Royal Opera Chorus and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, and Humphry Burton directs for television.
