Synopsis by Sarah Ing
The In Defense of Freedom series presents a detailed history of the defenders of the sea in Anchors Aweigh: The United States Navy Story. The 200-year-old organization was established during the Revolutionary War. Since its inception, it has grown into an international force consisting of aviation, underwater support, and armed destroyers. The U.S. Navy quickly became the largest and most powerful navy in the world. It built the first nuclear-powered submarine in 1954 and boasted a register of over three million sailors by the end of World War II. This hour-long video uses actual war footage and commentary to fill in the explosive history of this powerful branch of the armed forces.
