Synopsis
"An Honest Citizen" follows Colombian government official Maria Cristina Chirolla as she tries to make headway in her government's war on drugs. It's a staggeringly futile job, and filmmaker Angus Macqueen doesn't offer the slightest cause for optimism in this profile. Corruption is everywhere (indeed, she's now Columbia's top anti-drug prosecutor because her predecessor was fired in a scandal), and the only thing uniting the left-wing guerrillas and right-wing paramilitaries fighting Colombia's civil war is their drug profiteering. Death threats are constant, and as one colleague tells her, "Your death won't matter."
