Synopsis by Rob Ferrier
This series is based on the book of the same name by William Manchester. Douglas MacArthur was probably the most controversial American general of World War II and the decades that followed it. His presence shaped the modern American military, and his clashes with civilian authority shaped the relationship between presidents and generals forever after. This particular episode of the series chronicles the early days of World War II for MacArthur as he was forced to accept the bitter pill of retreat from the Philippines.
