Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

This investigative documentary explores the possible connections between the CIA and the downfall of Gough Whitlam's labor government in Australia in 1975. Some background on U.S.-Australian relations is provided, from World War II through the Cold War of the late 1940s and 1950s, and the relationships between U.S. presidents and Australian prime ministers are also illustrated through newsreels, quotes, and narration. While CIA heads deny any covert operations to tumble Whitlam from power, a convicted Australian spy maintains that the CIA was not honest in its dealings with the Aussie government. When put completely together, the documentary offers an education on U.S. attitudes toward Australia and enough evidence pro and con to indicate that we may never know for sure if Australia's government was intentionally affected by CIA activity.
