The original TV Guide ad for this episode posed the question "Is Mel Centerfold Material?" Well, not quite, but Mel (Vic Tayback) does find himself spread a bit thin as the "lover" of two different women. It all begins when Mel, in an effort to make his sweetie Marie (Victoria Carroll) jealous, plants a kiss on waitress Vera (Beth Howland)--but Vera doesn't know that she's being used as a pawn in a game of romantic one-upsmanship.
