Synopsis by Hal Erickson
This rare silent adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic stars little Viola Savoy as Alice. As much of the story as can be told is tightly crammed into the film's six reels (approximately 72 minutes' screen time). The character makeups are not quite as grotesque as those seen in the first talkie version of Alice in Wonderland (1933), and some of the performances-and special effects-are slightly better. W. W. Young's perfunctory direction is the film's only shortcoming, but the subject matter transcends the treatment. At last report, this earliest extant Alice in Wonderland was available on Video from The Entertainment Connection.
