synopsis
Because his wife Evelyn (Katharine Alexander) is near death and calling for her daughter Mary, who disappeared many years before, wealthy Henry Dow (Henry O'Neill) persuades kind-hearted waitress Sally Gates (Sally Eilers) to pretend to be Mary. However, this so invigorates Evelyn that she recovers, and Sally has to continue the impersonation. Later, she sneaks out to visit her old neighborhood, encountering her no-good former boyfriend Jimmie (Chick Chandler), but also later meeting socially-prominent Peter Marshall (Raymond Milland), who is attracted to her. Soon, Sally's pretense gets her into more trouble as she is blackmailed by the shady Martin (Addison Richards).
