Synopsis by Clarke Fountain

Ghareb (Mervet Amin) is eleven years old and it is 1967. His father died when he was an infant, during the Suez Canal crisis. When his mother begins to find it difficult to support the two of them, she sends him to work at the printing shop of one of her suitors. The man is pompous and overbearing with the boy, and he soon comes to heartily dislike him. Instead, he makes friends with one of his father's old colleagues, and secretly prints up the man's political tracts. Things become even more difficult for him because the print shop owner is looking like a likely candidate to become his step-father. After his mother and the man are married, Ghareb goes off to help the army fight the Israelis in the Six Day War.
