synopsis
Award-winning filmmaker Paula Heredia explores the 5,000-year-old tradition of female genital mutilation in Africa in an effort to put an end to the controversial practice once and for all. Each day, 6,000 African girls have their genitals mutilated. The practice has endured for centuries, though today it's viewed as barbarous. In addition to focusing on the grassroots campaign to end female genital mutilation, Heredia also introduces us to victims of the practice so that we might gain a greater understanding of the true toll it takes on individual lives.
