synopsis
The Adventurer was director/star Charlie Chaplin's last of his "Golden Dozen" 2-reelers for the Mutual Corporation. Chaplin plays an escaped convict who, after hilariously evading his captors, saves comely heiress Edna Purviance and her mother from drowning in the sea. This causes Puviance's hulking would-be suitor Eric Campbell considerable consternation. When Chaplin is later accepted by the girl and her friends as a society "swell," Camplbell starts suspecting that Chaplin isn't who he pretends to be. Things come to a hectic head at a society party; at film's end, Chaplin is once more in the hands of the law--but not for long.
