synopsis
This video is a 1978 production of the opera Adriana LeCouvreur, composed by Francesco Cilea, conducted here by Eduardo Miller. The passionate story of love and intrigue is set in the salon society of 18th century Paris. The opera dramatizes the hot rivalry between French actress Adriana LeCourvreur and the Princess of Bouillon for the affection of the Count of Saxony. A bouquet of poisoned violets ends the affair. Montserrat Caballe and Jose Carreras star in the production, which is in Italian with French subtitles.
