synopsis
Englishman Ivan Jackson comes to South Africa to take charge of a publishing firm. Once arrived, Jackson is at first mildly perturbed, then appalled, by the country's entrenched Apartheid system. Native worker Zakes Mokae helps to arouse Jackson's conscience and sense of justice. At the time World of Strangers was filmed, South Africa was still in the iron grip of legalized racial discrimination; thus, the film had to be produced in secret. Faithfully adapted from the novel by Nadine Gordmer, the semi-documentary World of Strangers was originally released as Dilemma.
