Synopsis by Mark Deming

Australian humorist Jack Feldstein wrote and directed this animated short comedy, produced in what he calls "neon animation," with brightly colored lines and patterns moving across a black background. Emma is fifteen years old and has woken up with the world's worst head cold. Adding insult to injury, the cold has hit her the same day that Eric Miller, a boy she has a furious crush on, is having a party that she's been invited to attend. When Emma's mother insists that she stay in bed and forget about attending the party, the girl is immediately convinced she must be adopted, and she leaves the house to look for help. Wandering into a drug store, the pharmacist gives her some powerful cold pills and warns her to take only one every eight hours. Emma immediately swallows three, and suddenly her day begins taking a number of surreal turns. A Wondrous Film About Emma Brooks was screened in competition at the 2007 Rotterdam International Film Festival, where Feldstein's short The Ecstasy of Gary Green has been an award winner the year before.
