The first film version of Charles Hale Hoyt's musical comedy A Texas Steer was purely and simply a vehicle for that grand old trouper Tyrone Power Sr. The star plays Maverick Brander, a wealthy but down-to-earth Texas rancher forced into politics by his ambitious wife (Grace Darmond). Three conniving political bosses try to push through some highly suspect legislation by using Brander as a "front man." But the sly old dog figures out what they're up to, so the crooked trio are forced to kidnap him to keep him from voting against their pet project. Escaping at the very last moment, Brander shows up in the capitol (minus his trousers!) to save the day for the forces of Truth and Honesty. A Texas Steer was remade in 1927, with Will Rogers in the lead.
