Rod Serling wrote the teleplay for the made-for-TV Storm in Summer; as with much of his latter-day work, it was snubbed by the critics but adored by the viewers. Peter Ustinov plays an old Jewish deli owner in upstate New York. Since the death of his son in World War II, Ustinov has shut himself off from all emotions and personal relationships. Equally soured on life is a 10-year-old African-American boy (N'gai Dixon), until recently a resident of the Harlem ghetto. The boy has been shipped upstate to live briefly with Ustinov as part of a civic-minded "fresh air vacation plan." He dislikes and distrusts Ustinov, and the feeling is mutual. Gradually, the two lost souls learn to reach out to one another. Originally telecast on February 6, 1970, as a Hallmark Hall of Fame special.
