Synopsis by Janiss Garza

This post-World War I drama was based on the pre-World War I play by Henry Arthur Jones. Nora Shard (Elsie Ferguson) is a pretty American heiress who is courted by the impoverished Lord Bisset (Warburton Gamble). When she discovers that his motivations are mercenary, she forgets him and turns her attention to a writing project -- in collaboration with Sir Henry Furnival (Henry Stephenson), Nora is turning her novel into a play. They're keeping their work a secret from Furnival's wife, Lady Doris (Julia Dean), because of her insane jealousy. Lord Bissett, however, hands Doris a page from Nora's book and claims it is a love letter she wrote to Furnival. After Doris shoots her husband dead and then turns the gun on herself, Nora is blamed for this tragedy and is ostracized from society. Humiliated, Nora changes her name and moves to Venice. There she meets English army officer Sir Ralph Newell (William P. Carleton), and they fall in love. The couple marry and return to England, where Nora discovers that he is Doris' brother. Lord Bissett tries to blackmail her, and in a panic, she runs away to Venice again. Newell finds her there and they reconcile -- Lord Bissett has finally confessed his part in the Furnivals' tragedy.
