Synopsis by Nathan Southern
This volume of the Naxos series - known for its "musical tours" of various locales - hones in, somewhat uniquely, not on one particular geographic region but on a whole spectrum of regions, linked by their shared significance in military history and connection to "Battle Music" by such composers as Beethoven, Liszt, Ippolitiv-Ivanov and Rimsky-Korsakov. The tour begins in Germany and England, with such stops as London's National Army Museum and Kulmbach's Tin Soldier Museum. Part Two hones in exclusively on England, with landmarks including the Wellington Memorial, St. Paul's Cathedral and Waterloo Place. Finally, Part Three heads back to Germany, with stops including the Bavarian Army Museum at Ingolstadt and the Tin Soldier Museum at Kulmbach.
