This tale of the tropics, based on a novel by Henry Kitchell Webster, was one of the last films made by Harold Lockwood; a few months before this picture's release, Lockwood became one of the fatalities of the flu epidemic of 1918. A group of scheming financiers have sold stock in a tropical island which they believe to be worthless. The manager they put in charge sends out glowing reports of the profits being generated, and his assistant, David Smith (Lockwood), even believes him. When the manager dies and Smith takes his place, he really does turn things around and the island does start making money. Christopher Beaumont (Stanton Heck) wants him to claim that the island is losing money so he can buy back the stock at a discount, but Smith refuses. In order to change his mind, Beaumont travels to the island and brings his daughter, Christabel (Bessie Eyton), along. Smith and Christabel fall in love, but he refuses to give into her father's demands. Smith proves his heroism to the girl, and she finds a treasure which she gives to him. He uses the money to buy a controlling block of the stock, which he places in her possession. Beaumont finally realizes that his crooked schemes have come to an end and throws in the towel.
