Synopsis by Hal Erickson

In August 2000, a Russian Naval submarine exploded and sank, with all hands lost. During a futile rescue mission, the authorities discovered that the doomed men had written farewell letters to their families. Olga Kolesnikov was among the unfortunate Navy wives who was widowed by the tragedy, and like the others, she was anxious to know her husband's final thoughts. Unfortunately, the bureaucracy denied Olga and the other family members access to those letters. Combining military footage, TV-news video clips, first-person narrative and limited dramatizations, the made-for-cable Letter From the Deep chronicles the aftermath of the tragedy and the Herculean efforts by Olga Kolesnikov to read what her husband wrote in his last moments of life. The film made its Cinemax network debut on February 18, 2003.
