Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Edith Totten -- Broadway star, author, playwright, stage producer and social activist -- made her only film appearance in the five-reel A Factory Magdalen. Totten also wrote the screenplay but was too busy to handle the direction, which was assigned to one E. Fleet Bostick. An "exposé" of factory conditions of the period, the film lays on the melodrama like a thick coat of paint, effectively killing most of the points Totten wanted to make. Also, the film suffered in the editing process, jumping incoherently from one sequence to the next. Totten's "co-star" Rex the Dog got all the best close-ups.
