synopsis
Nineteen-thirty-eight was the last year of stability for the city of Vienna before the maelstrom of Nazism. This dramatization of the city's final months of sanity stars Tobias Engel as a successful Jewish theatrical impresario, evidently modelled on Max Reinhardt. Engel falls in love with the gorgeous Sunnyi Melles, who happens to be non-Jewish. Love unfortunately does not conquer all in this star-crossed affair. Filmed on location in Germany and Austria, 38: Vienna Before the Fall was given an R rating due to isolated moments of nudity, dubbed-in profanity, and violence.
