Synopsis by Nathan Southern

At the time of this documentary's production in 2006, and for quite some time thereafter, Herb Hamrol qualified as one of the oldest men alive. Born in 1903, Hamrol lived out the infamous 1906 earthquake and mass wave of fires that nearly brought the bayside community of Frisco crumbling to the ground. He also lived out a 40-year marriage to the great love of his life, Cecilia (who died in 1969), and then outlived her death by around 40 years. Alon Aranya's documentary 1906 witnesses Hamrol still grappling with the grief from Cecilia's death, decades later, as he attends the Centennial Commemoration of the Great San Francisco Earthquake on April 18, 2006.
