Synopsis by Hal Erickson
From the E! Entertainment cable network, this five-part, five-hour countdown miniseries covered nearly 50 years of show business-related disasters, scandals, embarrassments and public spectacles. On the grimmer side, the series detailed the untimely deaths of such notables as Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, John Belushi, Chris Farley, and Princess Diana (how, one wonders, did she qualify as "entertainment"?). Less morbid moments of celebrity folly included the Milli Vanilli lip-synch affair, Zsa Zsa Gabor socking a traffic cop, the breakup of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, and the outlandish Liza Minnelli-David Gest wedding ceremony. Evidently the champion "shocker" was Michael Jackson, whose name popped up on the list no fewer than six times. Also included were such wholly fictional moments as the shooting of J.R. on TV's Dallas and the shower scene in Psycho. The 101 moments were narrated by such not-so-detached observers as Pamela Anderson, Lil' Kim, Ryan Seacrest, and Cybill Shepherd. 101 Most Shocking Moments in Entertainment premiered July 13, 2003.
