This theme applies mainly to comic films which feature a series of misadventures and frustrations for the main characters as they try to reach an ever-more-elusive goal. It is particularly appropriate for farces and comedies of error. This theme does not apply to films whose characters are merely facing hard times or to films about crimes which go awry in a serious (non-comical) way.
