This Josef von Sternberg classic gets a bare bones release on DVD. The Shanghai Gesture has been transferred to disc in its original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and the original audio has been replicated in Dolby Digital Mono. No additional features have been added for this DVD release, but given the film's spotty availability on home video, many fans will doubtless be pleased that The Shanghai Gesture has now been made available in digital format.
