The Pledge
Description by Patrick Naugle

Directed by Sean Penn and starring Academy Award winner Jack Nicholson, The Pledge is a dramatic look into obsessive behavior and the driving need for justice. Warner has done a fantastic job on both the audio and the video portions of this disc, but it hasn't done much in the way of extra features. The 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer is well rendered, coming close to reference quality. All aspects of the image are clean and on target, with colors, black levels, and natural-looking flesh tones. This is a well-done print and a great job by Warner. Audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 (in both English and French) and sounds very good. Since The Pledge is mainly a dialogue-driven film, it is not surprising to find that directional effects are kept to a minimum. Effects, dialogue, and the score by Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt sound very clear, with no distortion present. Sadly, the only extra feature available on this disc is an original theatrical trailer for the film. While the supplements may be lacking, overall this edition of The Pledge is a fine disc with excellent video and audio quality.
