Small films with a complete lack of focus don't often do well at the box office. Such is the case with Pumpkin, starring Christina Ricci. Will the movie find a larger audience on home video? That is questionable here. For the DVD, image quality is quite good, though not excellent. Included are both 1.85:1 (which is anamorphic) and full frame transfers, which do show signs of grain now and then, harming an overall impressive picture. For the most part colors are accurately reproduced and skin tones are right on target. The sound, a 5.1 Dolby Digital track is nothing to get excited about as all sound is centered up front. Surrounds are never utilized but little can really be expected for an independent film of this nature. Is the critical drubbing of this film the reason MGM only gave the disc a theatrical trailer for supplemental features? Other films disliked as much received more extras, but that is obviously not the case with all titles, as this one is certainly evident. Ultimately this disc is as insignificant as the characters within. |
