The director of Powder moves into the horror genre with the gruesome and scary Jeepers Creepers. MGM has brought a well-rendered 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer of this film to a "special edition" DVD. While there is an excess of grain and dirt on the print (intentional, says director Victor Salva in the commentary track), overall the color schemes and fleshtones look even and bright. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and utilizes directional sounds to eerie effect. Many scenes surround the viewer in creepy music and disgusting sound effects. The dialogue, effects, and music are all even and clear of distortion. Also included on this disc is a Dolby Digital 2.0 track in French and Spanish, as well as French, Spanish, and English subtitles. This "special edition" of Jeepers Creepers contains a nice amount of extra features to scare any viewer silly. Included on this disc is an informative and amusing commentary track by director Victor Salva; an almost hour-long documentary entitled "Behind the Peepers," which looks at the production, casting, and music of the film; ten deleted scenes (which include an alternate opening and ending sequence); a nine-minute photo gallery of images and photos from the film; filmographies on the principal cast and crew members; and theatrical trailers for the movies Jeepers Creepers and Hannibal and the special edition DVDs of The Silence of the Lambs, Carrie, and The Terminator. |
