Carve Her Name with Pride
Description by Bruce Eder

Lewis Gilbert's Carve Her Name With Pride (1958) never even made it to VHS tape in the United States, so this DVD issue is welcome, even if it comes with no frills. The black-and-white image is mastered with reasonable sharpness and contrast in an aspect ratio of approximately 1.66-to-1, the standard non-anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio. The audio is mastered cleanly as well, but at a very low volume level, which has to be boosted a fair amount for proper viewing. There are no bonus features, but the movie has been broken down well, in terms of having over two-dozen well-selected chapters. And it opens automatically to an easy-to-use menu.
