Breathless, Jean-Luc Godard's revolutionary debut, comes to DVD with a standard full-frame image. The French soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Mono. English subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary recorded by film historian David Sterritt. Considering this is simply one of the most important films in the history of cinema, the commentary track is a necessary accoutrement, but the lack of additional extras is a disappointment. This is a very good disc, but one may hope for a superb one at some point in the future. |
