Jerry Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and David Zucker's classic disaster spoof Airplane! comes to DVD in a fairly basic, but still entertaining presentation that includes a widescreen, anamorphic transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio, and the original theatrical trailer. The disc's big bonus is a group commentary with producer Jon Davison and the ZAZ writing team; not surprisingly, it's not as funny as the movie -- few things are -- but it is quite informative, explaining the origins for many of the film's rapid-fire gags and how the movie had to be cut to avoid an R rating. Though including some of that cut footage would have elevated this disc from good to great (with any luck, it will turn up in a deluxe DVD), it's still a must-have disc on the film's merits alone.
