Historical Epic, Period Film - Rated NR - 103 Minutes - 2014
This biopic of Grace Kelly starring Nicole Kidman opened the 2014 Cannes Film Festival where it was savaged by critics and quickly became embroiled in a heated dispute between its director Olivier Dahan and executive producer Harvey Weinstein. It bypassed a U.S. theatrical release and ended up on Lifetime, but was recently nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding TV Movie. While certainly not a masterpiece, it’s also not the trainwreck it’s largely been accused of being. It’s a movie that gets better as it goes along, and Kidman is luminous in the title role.
